My person for this project was Mint. From what I could tell just by reading the questionnaire, she loves adventure, a "wanderlust" personality. She also likes more exotic foods, not foods that a person can get anywhere and have almost no experience in cooking to make. From what she high lighted, it looks like she likes things that are opulent and very decorated. I'm getting the feel or layered and intricate designs. From what I read, it seems like she is also a hard, focused, independent worker.
This also tells me she is connected to the electronic world, because of all the apps she uses. She likes her social media.
I chose this because it is one of Mint's favorite colors and textures, so double win!! Visual. Direct. Internet.
This texture is more common when wood is cut and finished. It's a different looking texture than wood in it's raw, natural state.Visual. Direct. Internet.
This is a more raw and organic texture that wood shows. Visual. Direct. Internet.
I like the idea of the shapes being connected in one entity and some of them having a pop of color. It creates unity and hierarchy. Visual. Direct. Internet.
The use of positive and negative space in the different rings of the shapes are interesting and might be useful organizing. Visual. Direct. Internet.
The layers shown here are similar to rings in a tree bark. This is very colorful and has dimension to it. Funky. Visual. Direct. Internet.
Even though this isn't red, I do like the colors here. This is a more interesting marble texture because of the gold, it looks like a crunchier texture than other marble I've seen. Visual. Direct. Internet.

In this exercise, I had a hard time with organizing all of the information. I didn't want to make the text smaller than 12pt because I was afraid of it not being readable. I think I could have done a better job with alighment. After printing, some things were much bigger than I thought they were when I was looking at it on the screen, so that's defintely something to keep in mind.
After reading Mint's questionnaire, I thought I had her personality pinned down. I didn't know her before, so this was completely new. I wanted to avoid talking to her because I wanted the infographic to be a surprise to see if she could figure out if it was for her, which is why we didn't put the names on the them. But during class Mint said she felt like the infographic didn't represent her and I agreed. She was different in person than who I thought she was in the questionnaire. I'm kinda disappointed with the results in that way, but I tried my best to make it fit what I thought in the questionnaire.

I made the the MoMA logo and the dates look similar to how Grace Jones would title her albums, plus it looked very clean. I liked the repetition of her name, it filled up with space, catches the viewer's attention, and is visually interesting. I liked playing with the layering. I found this nice picture of her in black and white, I wanted the graphics to compliment her facial features because they are very strong. The picture cut off her shoulder, so I worked with it by making a box of info.
While the black and white picture looked very 80s, which was when Grace Jones was most famous, I wanted to try colorizing it. I didn't want the exhibit to just be about her career in the 80s, because she is still alive and has done many things since then. The colorized version further compliments the color palette I chose.
I liked the repetition of her name in the invitation, but it didn't work as well on the other applications, so I made it into a background texture. I went with a roll fold brochure with the panels measuring 3.56in wide and 8.5in long. Like the invite, I wanted the graphics to compliment her facial structure and line up with her angles, like her eyebrows, eyes, and cheek bones.
I also made a colorized version of this just to get an opinion on which one to pick. I didn't add the dates on the brochure because when you're there you're there, everything else has the dates and I felt like they weren't important to have on the brochure.
I have to say, the bus poster was more challenging for me to work with. I thought the use go her image was too repetitive, so I tried making this design with just her name. Stacking her name didn't fit, so I spread it on one line.

Looking at the gallery like like makes a cool collage, interesting.
At the bottom you will be able to visit my Pinterest page for Package Design research. I pinned a few things from the website and things I found. I went in a large range of products that can be packaged. Each one has a little description. Visual/Written. Direct/Inspirational. Internet.
What immediately came to mind was the popular anime series, Avatar the Last Airbender. The first idea that came to mind was making a tea based off of the tea in this anime, because I love both of those things. These are the symbols for the four basic elements: water, earth, air, and fire. Visual. Related. Internet.
I searched up "Elemental symbols" and this set came up frequently. I do like it, it's clean and simple, but I will not be using it. Visual. Direct. Internet.
This, although low quality, did have some interesting info on the four elements and their correlations. I thought this would help me decide what to package and a certain look. Visual/Written. Direct. Internet.
In my search for the elements, it's expected that I will see actually fire. I'm studying the flame movements because I want my logos to not feel static. Visual. Related. Internet.
I like the way waves move, but for my logo I don't want it to be this kind of typical image of a barrel wave. Visual. Related. Internet.
Even though air is all around us, it's invisible. Making the logo for this will be pretty free formed and based off of this kind of spiral movement. Visual. Related. Internet.
This may be the hardest element for me to create something for. I don't want the logo to be like a leaf, flower, tree, or other typical thing. I want it to match the other logos which will be abstract shapes. I want to play around with the concept of home. Visual. Related. Internet.

Here is the list of 100 things that can be packaged
At first I wanted to do tea, but then I was moving more towards an adventure theme and finally ended with Greek Mythology
These are my sketches that are more based off of Greek Mythology. I didn't choose a specific logo yet so some of them have different logos. I wanted to try different things that can be packaged and different lettering.
Here I have a quick sketch of an idea for the Four Elements logo. I wanted parts of the individual logos to come together as a whole and surround the diamond shape. I also did quick sketches of more greek mythology and a rough template for the packaging.
I used this greek column as a reference for one of my prelims. I wanted the packaging to look like a column so the shape stood out from other packaging.
This is the first style. I made wanted to show the different ideas I had to open the package, so it would either be a pop-off cap or open like a book. For the Four Elements packaging I wanted to make it look like greek architecture.
For the second set I used a simple box so it was easier to stack and package together. There's a die cut window showing off the product with the logos and names of the product really big. The Four Elements packaging would either be based off of a shield to armor for when Gods and Goddesses went to battle (I thought that could be a cool story).
The direction the class decided to go with were the columns. Since columns are tall, I have to elongate my designs. I decided to look at packaging that is fairly long. This set—which I want very badly—gave me some inspiration with the die-cut window being unique to each product and the idea to have characters on the back, but there's no story because the characters are already well known. Visual. Related/Inspirational. Internet.
I've noticed that they keep the company information and UPC on the bottom This example does have a story written on the back and I like how the typeface is very feminine and goes well with selling a makeup product. I've also noticed that the product is in a clear plastic casing that holds it in place inside the box, which is nice because it keeps the product upright and you can see the inside of the packaging. Visual. Related/Inspirational. Internet.

Here I collected a few images, articles, and videos on display designs. I have booths, POP's, exhibitions, retail, and window displays. Each thing I pinned has a description and you can click on the pins to enlarge the image. Click the link below to go to my board :)
I left a link below to the group blog showing my interview with Inciong. At the end where he says "sayans" it filipino accent for "science"
Project 3 Research:
Click the image and then the link below the image to pring you to my pinterest. My board has a variety of research and each pin has a short description and is categorized by the type of research at the end.
For these sketches I kept them loose and open minded by not sticking to one theme or design. I sketched out a few different ideas on parts of the display.
In the top left I started working on a structure, but nothing too fancy. It was more for organization purposes and getting an idea of what the full thing can look like. It was mostly inspired by the "tents" in JWT Advertising Agency and can be found on my Pinterest.
This was one of the styles I came up with for the display. It shows a curved counter/display area at the front and behind it is a curved wall. Together it creates the shape of a cylinder without having a full one. This allows for walking area and a place to meet with a consultant. This is a fairly open display and the wall can be moved closer or further front the counter depending on how much space we need/have.
The second design I came up with was to make a pod-like tent. I was thinking about observatories and museums with dome ceilings. Looking up at information would be cool and I was thinking of having a projector change the info that's being said. This surrounds the viewer with design and information, it's more intimate and personal. I want a big opening so it can get more people in, but not too big. Probably 35%-40% of the pod. You can see where I grabbed my inspiration on the group blog
After the second presentation we had, Diana scheduled for a meeting the day after. Seeing that so many people did cylinders, we decided to go with my pod-like tent idea. I grabbed some more inspiration on tents that you can see on my Pinterest or the group project blog in the link below.
I liked the patterns that were on some of those tiles. I was thinking of having a pattern like the ones shown here on the exterior of the display along with other information/quotes.
I really liked this quote and I thought it said a lot about the program. This is only four words, but it gives the viewer and idea of what our GD program's values are.
These ar some patterns that I was drawn to. I think it would be too busy to have something exactly like these on the exterior, but I was thinking of making a pattern inspired by them.
I liked the pattern here as well
